Join us for our National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) pre-conference Open House and Welcome Reception! This event is free and lunch is available.
Visit the GBH studio at the Boston Public Library, enjoy refreshments, listen to one of our panels, and engage with GBH producers and content developers, as well as fellow educators. Come and learn about:
- ELEVATING YOUTH VOICE IN CIVICS EDUCATION, featuring Youth Stand Up, a digital civic action curriculum and other new projects from GBH. [Panel from 2:00–2:30 PM]
- TEACHING DIFFICULT HISTORY featuring AMERICAN EXPERIENCE and a conversation with Executive Producer Cameo George. [Panel from 3:00–4:00 PM]
- Our Curriculum Offerings – Meet with PBS LearningMedia curriculum developers to learn about select teacher-developed, research-proven, and award-winning media-rich resources mentioned below. [Curriculum Showcase from 1:00–4:00 PM]
- U.S. History Collection – more than 400 educational resources that span the breadth of core topics and periods in U.S. history. Students use historical thinking skills to construct meaning out of a past composed of multiple perspectives and stories.
- Civics Collection – a robust set of educational resources to help educators empower student citizens, and teach middle and high school students about American citizenship, our constitutional democracy, and the complexities of our government.
- Nuclear Weapons and Security Policy: Past and Present Collection – resources to support educators in integrating issues of nuclear weapons and security policy into your regular curriculum while engaging students and promoting their critical thinking skills.
Drop in any time during our event to say hello, grab lunch or a snack at the Newsfeed Café (on us!), and pick up exclusive swag and information about new classroom resources. The Boston Public Library is a short walk from the Hynes Convention Center and many of Boston’s historic sites.
Are you local but not going to NCSS this year? Join us anyway! Our Open House is for all educators, and we hope to see you there.
